#SpookySZN - Fall collection 2021

every year, fall invites us to revel in the natural splendor of the new england landscapes. vivid reds, oranges, yellows, and greens, fade glamorously as the temperatures drop and the sunlight gets short and the environment urges us to contemplate our own eventual mortality. damp, foggy mornings enviven the moody atmospheres that shape legendary tales of the haunted and reminding us that we all are in our own ways. the warmth of the early afternoon sun breaks through the morning fog and gives way to the harvest ceremonies inspiring hayrides & candy apples, pumpkin decoration & masquerades, and haunted houses at family feasts. eerie echoes in forlorn woods entice the darker side of our imaginations and the long shadows of rickety dead tree fingers cast across the forest floor reinforce our fears. Trick or treaters ritualize our knowing that oftentimes the most terrifying masks we encounter are the ones that look back at us from the other, underside of the mirror everyday. autumnal rituals ground us in mourning as we intentionally reconvene with the past. we reestablish ourselves within the best of our traditions as we decide which our ancestral legacies need to be carried into the future. the equinox speaks to our balance — we take account of our relationships to everything around us, we reckon with the strangeness and ambiguity of existence and balance ourselves in the liminal something-ness between life and death that we occupy. as we see neighbors raking up and blowing away crispy leaves of yesteryear, we remember that the spaces we occupy are changeable and that part of the responsibility we have in occupying them is to steward them to the best of our ability through the actions we take or fail to take. the fall teaches us to question ourselves and reminds us that sometimes parts of ourselves need to die in order to begin to something related, but all together better than our former selves. we realize that the horror about it all is, that sometimes its us that has to murder a part of ourselves to be a better we. this includes reckoning with our relationship to the dialectical process of history and severing our ties to the harmful traditions, rituals, and relationships that we were (and are) socialized into. SOmetimes the things that inform us about who we are are the ones that do the most damage, and we recognize that in order to make way for other, newer, healthier, more unified ways of being to emerge and act in the world, we have to kill off parts of our own lives that are getting in the way of better us and and more free we. as the last of the fall leaves fall to the earth below, the seasonal change also challenges us to seek refuge. as we think about our needs and wants to retreat to shelter from the coming winter months, as praxis, i think deeply about Love — what it means to me, how I practice it, how I best receive it, and in what ways i need it. many of us incorporate traditions to which we give thanks to the land and we pull our beloveds close, strengthening the community bonds that will hold us through the cold. warm fires allow us to rekindle the relationships that nourish us and depart from those that drain our energy like the frigid winter ground. below are some of the crispy fall frames that have inspired some of my musings about love, life, death, and land. I hope that you enjoy them almost as much as like like capturing them.

thank you so much for visiting.
